- poems about love & longing
- distract me. i flinch, but
- notice anyway
- it’s on the page. those gritted
- teeth, those roses crushed in cellophane.
- such images of lust
- create them, like summer
- makes mosquitoes. trying to touch
- the heart as if it were a ten-foot ceiling,
- strain on the tiptoes, mutter syllables
- of what is wanted, looked for.
- invent a wind to brace against,
- a moon to pale, a face
- to pose for dreams.
- lungs reluctant,
- i mark the lines. black
- strong-smelling ink squeaks
- across the margins, edge to edge.
- i pin the paper to the wall
- words away, i let my breath out
- & abandon
- the building
