John Lennon, 8 December 1980

We love John Lennon’s music so much that his murder would have made us bitter if he had not taught us to live in hope and in love; this is the world we live in. Don’t wonder why his killer thinks he killed John Lennon when you had better ponder why he shouldn’t have; this is the world we live in, a world we can’t believe in. John Lennon showed us that he suffered and how to live without hatred; he told us what love and peace are and how to freely laugh and cry; yet this is the world we live in, a world we can’t believe in, a world we are not free in. It is true that John Lennon will live on in his music and in his music living in us, and this is our consolation for this the world we live in, a world we can’t believe in, a world we are not free in, a world that will not let us be.
