24: Evolution

There is no natural relationship, such as one in which ships without anchors drift apart, or ride out the storm. There is no beginning from which all differences stem, and no end to which improvements could be measured. Two people, we met, we liked each other, and our liking and closeness evolved or accrued, or resulted in something else. Yet I persuade myself that we are happier than the day we married, and when I told you that you seem happier you seemed surprised. Happiness is never inevitable. Only fools meet destiny; only idiots wait for it. For the rest of us, there is no best form of government, no most efficient team, no ideal family, no normal behavior, and no perfect bliss.
