41: Judgment

The mind acts to judge— rather than continuing to rehearse the abduction and murder of a young girl, and the hatred of the man who would do such a thing, and then raise his index finger in the courtroom. Some mind, some may not, but they mind if they care about right and truth. If evil were only the absence of love, then one could be true only to the ideal, and judgment would be constantly frustrated. Divided, most of us conspire with reality, imperfect as it is. It’s unavoidable, like digestion, without which life itself would not be possible, this life that judgment should despise.
