60: Nature

Great Grandpa Sharp was in the hospital with cancer and his doctor told him he was going to die. “Well,” he said, “if I’m going to die, I want to die at home,” so he got up and went home where he proceeded to get drunk and stayed drunk for a week. He kept his liquor in a mason jar on one side of his bed, and on the other side, because he was blind, his sons Will and Ross had filled another jar with the lighted ends of fireflies. He died of old age nine years after his diagnosis. The autopsy showed no trace of cancer.
