The boat buried at Sutton Hoo was shaped like a big canoe with tall stem and stern posts, oak planks assembled clinker style with iron rivets, eighty-nine feet long fourteen feet amidships built for forty oarsmen and a mast for a sail. This was a coffin for a king made to bring death to any who would not bow low.
