Yoal

Fishermen in the Shetland Islands bought kit boats from Norway. These clinker-built, three-man rowboats were build and every piece named in Norway, disassembled, and shipped to the Shetlands where they were reassembled. The six boards from the keel are the gabbard straik, the Hassen straik, the lower and upper sools, the sand straik, and the upper wup. The upper wups are joined by the hinny spot at the horn. The yoal came with a mast and a square sail for when the wind was fair. We’ll leave it at that.
