Debjit didn’t claim to be an avatar of Vishnu; he just told everyone that he came from another world, and he recited many details to back up his claim. The world he came from was named Dhaarmata, he said; its sky was yellow; its sea was pink; and its people ate only the lotus. Everyone knew he was crazy, but they didn’t need to burden him with the truth. He might have suffered from a blow to the head, or a brain aneurysm, or have eaten a hallucinogen, but otherwise he behaved himself and caused no concern.
