Autumn (IV) (literal translation of Du Fu’s poem)

I heard that Chang’an is like playing chess, and the world affairs of a hundred years are too sad. The houses of the kings and princes are all owned by new owners, and the clothes of the civil and military officials are different from the past. The golden drums are beating at the north pass, and the carriages and horses are rushing to the west with feathered letters. The fish and dragons are lonely and the autumn river is cold, and I miss my homeland in peacetime.
