A long climb by Tom Sharp

On top of a cliff above the Yangtze River, winds blow, monkeys howl, and birds fly over us. The river below rolls endlessly and leaves on the mountainside are blown away. I’ve been asked to celebrate this day with strangers but it only makes me feel lonely. Bitterness and hard times have turned my hair white. The dust of regret floats over the wine in my cup.

登高 by 杜甫 (Du Fu)
