Deprivations of war

My neighbor, afraid of being discovered, sneaks into my yard to pick my jujubes. I might have built a stronger fence if my neighbors weren’t starving. And neighbors might not be starving if it weren’t for the war— with soldiers dying for nothing and with taxing the widows to pay for it.
