Working at the shogunate by Tom Sharp

After dark, my candle burns in the cold. I have no time to go home after working all day. A bugle echos sadly in the dark. Nobody can walk alone under the moonlit sky. The war is like sand blowing across the border— no progress, no end to it, only misery. I’ve worked for ten years, earning only loneliness, and I find peace only in the cold night.

宿府 by 杜甫 (Du Fu)
