Song Yu is my teacher; his poems sing of my sorrow. Who doesn’t cry who learns how the past has been destroyed, and that it’s not one destruction, but thousands? Song Yu’s old house in the mountains has been stripped; we have only remnants of his paintings and writings. It’s a deserted platform in the rain, the stuff of dreams. Song Yu served the Chu but they are all gone. Locals point out where they think the Chu palace used to be, but even they are doubtful.
