Chione was a civil engineer and a historian. In Alexandria, any time you dug into the dirt you were looking at history. She knew she lived in a changing world. Her own career would have been impossible for a woman only a decade earlier. Chione thought that Alexandria was the most beautiful city in the world. It had palm trees, beaches and castles not made of sand. But, like Heracleion before it, Alexandria, she knew, would drown.
