Smoke

Although the bus driver smokes in the aisle as his passengers arrive, it’s rude to object to his rudeness; either way I’m disconcerted, as victim or aggressor, to allow or deny this man his pleasure. What I said exactly, trying to be polite, escapes in my discomfort; his anger angers me, as though my ends do not justify my means.
