You may notice a distortion of light in an area of space near you. Or you may notice nothing, but passing through it, you may find yourself in another time and place, another world, another dimension. Ancient and sacred spaces may have been built around such portals, the altar of the solar temple of Nyuserre, the stone temple Gobekli Tepe, Stonehenge, or the Gate of the Sun at Tiahuanaco. Maybe the distorted image you saw was an optical migraine. Maybe unusual architecture disoriented you. Maybe the place or its history overstimulated your imagination. Maybe you had a brain aneurism, so lost your way and your memory. People disappear every day. Some are never found. Ships and planes disappear from inside the Bermuda Triangle. It’s tempting to think they could be reappearing in another place, another time, no longer lost in fear or hope.
