Philosophers’ stone

Alchemy was a conspiracy theory for intellectuals who, in their poverty and old age, believed that knowledge could give them wealth and immortality. The only problem was that they didn’t know what they needed. They needed to figure out esoteric analogies and formulas, and do many experiments, and if they failed, it was their fault, not the fault of their sources. It was a conspiracy against nature, their own nature and the nature of matter.
