You said you would like to crawl into that Hollow that lies just above the collarbone And live there a happy being Curled head to tail Roundly proud I did not fully understand But I understood full well My heart leaped out of my chest Flew with inflated wings Clearing the colonnade Rebounding off the ceiling You said You loved the hidden parts of me The dark places Behind my knees Between my toes The piggies that went to market That climbed the himalayas For years I dreamt of sherpas That looked like you You said Someday we’ll grow grizzled together And dream with our eyes open That beaten up old comforter Pulled up to our scrawny necks Looking up at the ceiling Breathless and grinning Provincetown, MA, 2019/2025
