Patronage

Caṇḍa Ānanda said, “The reason an emperor invites scholars and teachers to their palaces isn’t to benefit from their wisdom; it’s so that people’s respect for them rubs off on the emperor.” Caṇḍa Ānanda also said, “You’re a great teacher; you might even do miracles; so you why do you need an emperor?” Caṇḍa Ānanda also said, “If you were so wise, you wouldn’t be bought. You don’t need royalty or its wealth to increase your wisdom, The emperor’s wealth won’t increase your love for others.”
