Simple life

Caṇḍa Ānanda was not a recluse. He married, but had no children. He earned his living as a farmer. He said that to live as a hermit, even as a monk or a priest, is like a drug that blinds one to reality. He built his own house, raised his own ducks, and made his own goat cart. He and his wife where the godparents of a hundred children.
