An individual elephant has its own name, which her family and friends know and use. How, then, are we any different except in our size and shape? A plant, the Venus flytrap, catches and digests its food like any animal. Do we think a creature has a life and a soul because we identify with it in its birth and death but a plant, merely because it’s rooted in the soil, is not like us?
