About this book

These are descriptions of the life of a unique individual, Maximilian Alexander Xerces Cyrus Robert (Bob) Wilhelm Kandik Ladislaus XVI, who is known as Emperor Max. The themes of this book are privilege, dominion, and humanism. Americans have ridiculed European aristocracy since our early days. This book started out to make fun of Emperor Max, but it turns out that Max is human, too, so it ends with sympathy and, I hope, understanding, not that I’ve intended any resemblance to any actual emperor, real or imagined, alive or dead.

The cover is a drawing of a crown in a cloud above three chalices, symbolizing royal authority and earthly pleasures.
