Emperor Max had always advocated for equality, as well as fraternity. He just had never experienced it. He might think of himself as a fellow student but his age and the fact that he owned the Ladislaus estate argued for different relationships. The other students wanted to call him “Sir,” and it didn’t help that his knee-jerk response was “You may call me ‘Your Lordship.’”
