Max’s father, Emperor Maximilian Phillip (Phil) Ladislaus, abdicated when Max was ten. Phil appointed a constitutional assembly and an interim prime minister, abdicated, and that was that. Technically, his son, Max, was not an emperor, but Phil had stipulated that his descendants be allowed to use the title if they wished.
