Chinese, Islamic, Javanese, Hindu, Jewish, Gregorian, Babylonian, and Tibetan cultures have their own ways of naming and dividing up the months of the year. This is to be praised and respected, particularly because none of our units of time exactly correspond to orbital periods anyway. To an extent, a book of months is also a book of orbital mechanics and world cultures. But the main thing is that whatever months you use, they are submerged in human history by other months.
One answer to the question, “How many months are there in a year?” depends on your calendar. Most calendars have twelve months, roughly aligning with the cycles of the moon. Some add a thirteenth month to align roughly with the solar year. The Baháʼí calendar has nineteen months. Considering them all together, in a single year there are many, many months.
