The Hindu calendar divides the year into twelve solar months, which are named after the constellations in the zodiac, and twelve lunar months with a thirteenth month added every two or three years. In fact, there are different types Hindu calendars for different regions. Bengali and Tamil calendars use the names of the lunar months for some solar months. Many regions have their own names for the months. The amānta tradition ends a lunar months on the new moon, and the purnimānta tradition ends the months on the full moon.
