Slavic January

For the Polish, January is styczeń— or, for Croatians, sijȇčanj— “winter month of cutting wood.” For Ukrainians, January is січень (sičeń)— “month of slash-and-burn.” For Macedonians, January is коложег (koložeg)— “month of burning tree trunks.” For the Czechs, January is leden, “month of ice.”
