Body doubles

Some people are so important that if they die they’re replaced by body doubles. Some murders are covered up by substituting body doubles, especially when the murderer can afford to pay for it. Lawyers for the estate of the deceased often decide that a replacement is better than admitting their client has died. The double can continue to generate an income based on the dead person‘s reputation. Insurance companies much prefer the replacement alternative. Of course this works best when a person dies before becoming too old. It was pointless replacing Ronald Reagan because the double would have had to act senile and then die of old age not long afterwards. It would make no sense to replace George Burns, who was over a hundred when he died, because the double’s remaining years would be so limited. They would have replaced Kennedy after he was shot but Jackie forbade it. She wouldn’t live with a look-alike. They would have replaced Michael Jackson but the double didn’t want the job. Some important people, such as Vladimir Putin, use body doubles for public appearances. so you know one will be ready when he dies, if he hasn’t died already.
