Iĝanax̂ was a terrible person but his wife, Datuu, was devoted to him and they had many children. He was a fisherman and he smelled like a fish, but Datuu’s eyes worked better than her nose and her husband was handsome. Other people didn’t like Iĝanax̂ because he always did things his own way and he was generous with his opinions. Iĝanax̂ knew the sea and the winds. His walrus-hide boat could ride any wave. One morning Iĝanax̂ said to Datuu, “Let’s go. The people here are tired of me.” So Iĝanax̂ and Datuu gathered their children and put their belongings in the boat and they sailed to a better place. They followed the jet stream to the Aleutian Island archipelago, and then they followed the islands to a continent of glaciers with protected coves and abundant sea life.
