Drawing a lily

In small villages in Poland, children are told to never draw a lily. The lily symbolizes beauty and fertility, but it also has ominous associations because of its use in funerals. If a child is found to have drawn one, he or she is urged to recite a rhyme: “May the lord protect me from this lily; I didn’t meant to be so silly.”
