According to mycologists, many species of fungi are yet to be identified, let alone learning their beneficial properties. It’s not unreasonable, therefore, to give the benefit of doubt to Bill Dover in Rock Creek Colorado who claimed to have found a mushroom that gives him an ability to see goblins, to know the future, and to understand the interconnectedness of natural systems. A local water witcher told people of Bill’s discovery because he thought it would make people think Bill was crazy. He had been hired by Bill to find the best place for a well, and they became friends, but he became irritated with Bill because Bill insisted that he work in bare feet. Bill never would have shared the discovery himself. He feared that the place where the mushrooms grew would be destroyed, and he didn’t think the world was ready for it. When reporters go to Rock Creek to interview Bill, Bill is never home. They say he is out looking for identical biomes and scattering the spores so that the mushroom is less likely to become extinct.
