About this book
Each of us owes a debt to people of different times and places that we can pay back by acknowledging their importance. Their identities cannot have been much different from our own, but affected in different ways by their time and circumstances.
Of the Toms represented here, the author is related to the Aleut, Revolutionary War scout, tent man, milkman, WWI soldier, maritime translator, pub owner, sheriff, and carpenter. The disciple, Mr. Thumb, the sheriff, and the publican were actually named Tom. Others are representative, not really fictional.
Readers will notice, so I feel I should admit, this book reminds me, too, of Spoon River Anthology by Edgar Lee Masters.
