Cowboy

There was nothing romantic or requiring a code of honor about the role of the cowboy. The work was hard and the pay was poor. The role was displaced by myth for the entertainment industry. Ranching, in which domesticated cattle replaced American bison on the Great Plains, required skills and endurance, not romantic campfire songs or the ability to draw a gun quickly from a holster.
