You can tell you’re not a character in a novel or play because no one gave you any good lines. Your life is also not a movie or dream because the scenes never dissolve or suddenly appear. You might be happier in a dream, or having a team of script writers. You can talk to your shrink about that. Your outer reality could be very different from your inner one. It might be sad if they were the same. You must accommodate different rules, different meanings of time, in particular the one that simply plods on without much connection between your life and history. If you want to be a charming youth in an exciting adventure in strange lands, you’ll need to quit your job at the bank and start training to do your own stunts.
