Observation of a seed

A pine nut, like the Biblical mustard seed, encapsulates a potential tree (its possible future) and an actual past. The pinyon pines at the rim of the Grand canyon didn’t grow there by accident. The Pai and Paiute planted them and watered their saplings because for them the tree and its seeds were a form and a means of life, like a family, like blood. To observe the seed, you must see it’s a part of a history and a process.
