Many amoebae

Salvadore Dalí - Little Cinders [Summer Forces, or Birth of Venus] A man is but an enlarged amoeba. Like Venus he has stepped from an oyster shell and his essential form is still the oyster. In his dream he recapitulates amoebic origins that he must suffer but cannot remember. As an amoeba, he can’t recognize amoeba, small semi-transparent amoeba that swarm about him, or feathered amoeba that fly from him. As a large amoeba, floats in an amoebic sky, he swims in a sea of amoebae, some struggling on their evolutionary paths and some beginning their gruesome deterioration.
