Hobby horse

A horse head with plastic reins on a broomstick is fine for younger children. They can have all the fun they want with it. But something happens as you get older. Does your imagination get to be more finicky? Less flexible? More sensitive to changing fashions? For May Day celebrations and Morris Dances in England since the seventeenth century, adults put in elaborate hobby horses, but they have a tradition, and a symbolic purpose. The antics of their horses aren’t up to a child to invent.
