This is actually a large shallow wooden barrel propelled by a paddle off Japan’s Sado Island for gathering abalone and other shellfish and giving rides to tourists. Three persons can sit in the tub on a bench while a woman stands to handle the oar. The bathtub boat and the coracle show that many of the attributes associated with racing yachts are unnecessary for many practical uses.
