Property — Nomlaki

My grandfather owned a tree. That wasn’t all he that belonged to him but he was an important person, and he parceled out to others what he could not use himself. His tree was a special oak. There was nothing else like it around, and only my grandfather could harvest its small acorns unless he give some of them to us. Even though land and oak trees were carefully divided and demarcated, no one whom I knew owned property except my grandfather, who was favored.
