If God were real would He be wondering why He ever created predators? Wouldn’t having all meat eaters be scavengers and having prey be more sensitive to overcrowding have been less cruel? Maybe killing is cruel as far as He’s concerned only if you’re killing your own. If all species had a broader understanding of their own kind, there would be less cruelty, but fewer species. Shock prevents the brain from registering pain, so it’s possible the bunny doesn’t suffer when the cat bites. Shock could be a part of a wider view in which it all makes sense, in which God was never cruel, but human beings always questioning but never smart enough to come up with the answers.
