In spirit, Jasaw was a Maya king

His father named him after Jasaw Chan K’awiil I, king of Tikal. It was an innocent mistake, not meant to commit Jasaw to violence and blood sacrifices but to encourage him to become a writer. Conflicting forces ruled Jasaw’s heart. Since these essentially canceled each other out, Jasaw seemed like a normal boy, except he was proud and quiet, unlike other boys his age.
