Teaching

Caṇḍa Ānanda became known. When young people came and expected him to teach them, he asked them, “What do you know about peas?” He asked them, “Do you know how to cultivate mustard?” Caṇḍa Ānanda gave them spades and took them to a field of arhar, and asked them, “If you wanted daal, would you start here?” He asked them, “If you wished to be enlightened, would you try to be ignorant of seed, dirt, water, or sunlight?”
