Romans had the three-form goddess Hekate— huntress, moon goddess, and goddess of the nether world. Christians have the trinity— Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Yazidis believe in a divine triad— Tawûsî Melek, Sheikh Adi ibn Musafir, and Sultan Êzîd. Hindus have the Trimurt— Brahma (creator), Vishnu (preserver), and Shiva (destroyer). Buddhists have the Trikāya— Dharmakāya (existence), Sambhogakāya (the divine), and Nirmāṇakāya (humanity). Caṇḍa Ānanda said, “We seem to like to divide the divine into three.” Caṇḍa Ānanda also said, “There’s probably a divine reason for triples, but if it were up to me I would count on my fingers to make it five, or even ten.”
