Mardi Gras

In French, “Mardi gras” means “fat Tuesday,” but in English it means it’s time for a carnival, a time that carnivores can eat meat again after fasting during Lent. It’s time for eating pancakes, and parades with jazz bands, showy costumes, and party beads. Marti Gras starts on Shrove Tuesday, which is the last day before Lent and 47 days before Easter Sunday. In 2026, it starts on 4 March.
