Late in life, Duke Wen of Wei began work on the Chu palace. The palace and residence were built to align with the sunlight. They planted hazel, chestnut, catalpa, paulownia, and lacquer trees, since musical instruments could be made from these. Today if you stand on the hillside above the city, you can see the palace, residence, and halls, echoing the shape of Jing Mountain. Descend to enjoy the mulberry tree orchards. When the rainy season began, the Duke gathered the farmers. They planted orchards of mulberry trees, for their fruit and to breed silkworms. These were men of profound intelligence, with good hearts, who worked hard to protect the people.
