Rogue (literal translation)

A simple-minded man, carrying cloth to trade for silk, didn’t come to trade silk; he came to plot against me. I saw him off across the Qi River, as far as Dunqiu. It wasn’t that I broke our promise; he didn’t have a good matchmaker. Please don’t be angry; let’s meet again in autumn. I climb that ruined wall, to gaze upon Fuguan Pass. Unable to find the gate again, tears streamed down my face. After the gate reopened, we laughed and talked. He consulted the oracle, and the oracle yielded no ill omen. Come with your chariot, and I will offer you a bribe. The mulberry leaves, before they fall, are lush and green. Alas, dove, do not eat the mulberries. Alas, woman, do not be infatuated with a man. A man’s infatuation can be explained, A woman’s infatuation cannot be explained. The mulberry leaves have fallen, yellow and withered. Since I came to you, I have suffered poverty for three years. The Qi River flows swiftly, dampening the carriage curtains. You are not fickle, but the man’s actions are inconsistent. The man is without limit, his virtue fickle. After three years I was tired of a life of domestic labor, rising early and retiring late, without a single morning’s rest. My promises were fulfilled, but then came violence. My brothers, unaware, laughed at me. Reflecting quietly, I grieve for myself. To grow old together with you, but old age brings me resentment. The Qi River has its banks, the marsh its boundaries. In our childhood, we feasted and laughed merrily. We made solemn vows, never considering betrayal. Being betrayed was unthinkable; it is over now.
