As I arrived at the palace, three hundred men stood with spears and halberds in red ill-fitting costumes. They looked like pelicans, but, unlike a pelican, who catches fish without getting wet, they were wet from the rain, and they looked hungry. This is no way for ordinary people to honor their rulers. While they stood at the palace, their wives and daughters were anxiously gleaning the fields.
彼候人兮,何戈与祋。 彼其之子,三百赤芾。 维鹈在梁,不濡其翼。 彼其之子,不称其服。 维鹈在梁,不濡其咮。 彼其之子,不遂其媾。 荟兮蔚兮,南山朝跻。 婉兮娈兮,季女斯饥。
