The divine presence dwells somewhere. You don’t need me to tell this to you. Otherwise, why bother making a world? Why bother making creatures who can build altars? So here’s how you can tell where it is. Is it anywhere you invite it to dwell? It has been written that there’s only one— just as there’s only one god— but don’t believe this. Wisdom, knowledge, understanding, love, justice, compassion, beauty, splendor, majesty— these are characteristics of the divine, but not its dwelling place. Some say the divine presence is in the whole of creation with the exception of altars built for false gods, but others, who are more in the know, say that since the destruction of the first temple the divine presence dwells only in unicorns and rainbows, and possibly in hummingbirds.
