Gargoyles and chimeras

When an architect adds gargoyles and chimeras to a building they’re not just decorations. On the Notre-Dame of Paris gargoyles funnel rainwater away from the building, but why didn’t the architect just add protruding spouts? Gargoyles are spiritual gangs. In Ghost Busters, the gargoyle is brought to life by a demon, but their historical purpose is to ward off evil spirits. You probably don’t know that all the gargoyles and chimeras in France were made by the same company, and it’s still in business. Montfleury et Fils has celebrated eight centuries of operation and to this day still keeps a kennel of five breeds of live gargoyles for models and inspiration.
