It’s well-known that certain combinations of words have supernatural effects. It’s less well-known that there are so many of these, that you might unknowingly spell the name of a demon who wouldn’t be pleased with you, or pronounce by accident a spell that kills your best friend. These things are supposed to be kept secret for our own good, so even in the Kabbalah they are concealed. Only a careful application of numerology can reveal them. These secret phrases exist in many languages, not just in Hebrew and Latin. It’s little known that Joseph Goebbels knew of one in German that gave him power over journalists, and he used it frequently even though its side effect was to increase his unhappiness. In May 1810, in the woods of Wisconsin, an explorer, fearful of natives, muttered something about red men hiding behind trees whereupon a bolt of lightning struck the oak tree above him, breaking off a limb that fell and broke his shoulder blade. In August 1865, in Five Points slum of New York City, a newspaper boy threw a paper over a gate and hit a cat. He uttered something about gates, papers, locks, and cats, and was covered in dust as a sinkhole opened up in the street behind him. There have been many incidences such as these, and most people think they are only coincidences.
